LEIT Life: The First Few Weeks at LEIT Data

It’s just been a couple of months since I joined Leading Edge IT (LEIT) Data as a Graduate Data Engineer, and I’ve loved every bit of it.

My reasons?

There are plenty, but here are some:

  1. As we are a small company that is growing exponentially with every passing day, the whole team at LEIT Data already feels like a family.
  2. Everyone at LEIT is kind, welcoming and approachable.
  3. The company promotes flexible and remote work, which, for someone like me with a young family, works perfectly.
  4. The company is SERIOUS (Yes, I mean really – really serious!) about the training and development of its employees. I have already passed three professional certifications in Snowflake and ThoughtSpot in less than two months, and this is just the beginning of my journey in data engineering. There is surely a lot more to learn and groom myself professionally in the future too.
  5. Not matter how big or small my achievement is, there is always lots of encouragement and appreciation from my manager- Dave Foreman, my mentor Craig Bunyan and the rest of my team.
  6. We celebrate all occasions like a real family – birthdays, work anniversaries, graduations, Valentine’s Day, International Women’s Day, Easter, Christmas and others (you name it) with warm greetings and lovely presents.

In short, LEIT is made of a bunch of amazing people who are always willing to listen and help. With such a friendly work culture, I can’t thank LEIT enough for giving me the opportunity to kick-start my career in information technology and data engineering. I honestly could not have asked for more.

But, hey, don’t just take my word for it. See what some of colleagues who have joined us recently say about their lives at LEIT:

Samantha Smith (Graduate Data Engineer):

“This is my first ‘real’ job out of university, and it’s been a really positive experience. I was worried that I would lack opportunities to get into the tech sector because my degree wasn’t explicitly computer science, but there’s a wide range of academic backgrounds among the people I’ve met at LEIT and my personally developed skills are taken seriously, as well as my transferable past experience.

The company culture is friendly, and also much more actively sociable than I would have expected from a fully remote position; I’m already happy for a lot of the relationships I’ve formed and my out-of-work interactions with co-workers. The tight-knit feel keeps me excited and motivated to do my best.”

Caroline Flowers (Data Engineer):

“I really appreciate the mentorship and the quality of the onboarding at LEIT. I have a commercial background rather than a consulting background, so the scale and complexity of a client project seemed overwhelming at first, but the technical lead and project manager have made the

experience accessible and enjoyable. The project seems exciting and interesting rather than daunting. Both the lead and project manager are very approachable, they never make you feel as if you’re asking stupid questions or like you’re wasting their time.

The personal development opportunities here are really exciting, and I appreciate the freedom and support to explore different areas without having to follow a specific pathway. A lot of companies talk about training and progressing people, without actually taking action, but LEIT does actually put people forward to complete training and certifications no matter their tenure or position.”

Idris Akinade (Graduate Data Engineer):

“My first couple of weeks with LEIT has been great. Everyone in the company has been extremely welcoming and very helpful. For a remote working job, it doesn’t feel like this. Everyone is there when you need them and very supportive. Its feel like one big family. The rate of progression has also been very promising as we have already been placed in projects.”

Adedoyin Adebayo (Graduate Data Engineer):

“Leading Edge to me are an employee-centric company – what I mean by this is that they are incredibly focused on the growth and identity of each employee. This has made me feel welcomed, cherished and valued. A key aspect of Leading Edge is having or aiming to create the vision of where you want to be. This is supported by the time allocated for you to explore your personal interests whether it be Machine Learning, APIs, or your suggestion – the beauty is that the choice is yours!”

So, you see, LEIT is great place to be.
